Сейчас могу подвести итоги установки свежего gentoo-amd64-2006.0
на довольно слабенькую машину с sempron 2800+. Да, установка и
создание привычной среды заняли довольно много времени. Но я
утверждаю, что _любой_ пользователь, который строго следует
документации (лучше её распечатать) без труда достигнет успеха.
Повторяю: _любой_. Поддержание актуального состояния совсем не
проблема. Особенно впечатляет простота обновления ядра:
скачиваются несколько очередных патчей и прикладываются к
локальному архиву. Быстро! Ну, а процедура сборки ядра - рутинная
операция.
Не скажу подобного про ubuntu. На мой взгляд,
dapper-install-amd64 откровенно сырой продукт.
Про ALT Linux всё сказал Антон. Но ведь, как всегда, "мы хотим
сегодня, мы хотим сейчас". Вот я и спрашиваю :-). Тем самым
заявляю готовность подключиться к тестированию и принести
посильную помощь.
