Неделю назад решил сменить на рабочей станции P4 3 ГГц HT на
sempron, чтобы ощутить возможности 64-битного софта. Первое, с
чем я столкнулся - низкая производительность диска - hdparm не
дотягивает до 4 Мб/с (а то и 2,8 выдаёт). Первой мыслью было -
бракованная материнская плата. Тут же купил другую. Ничего не
переменилось. Догадался посмотреть, а что в gentoo для amd64, на
этот раз hdparm выдал нормальное значение - 58.
Вопрос: с чем это связано, либо что заломано в Сизифе (для i586)?
И второе: я бы с радостью испытал Install_64. Не пора ли его
сделать (хотя бы для x86_64, да и для amd_64)? Для тупых - это
не офтопик!

initrd.img пересобрали?
