То есть symbol versioning можно рассматривать как "уточнение" ABI.
Программа, собранная в середе "без уточнения" (у них), будет работать
и в "уточненной" среде (у нас). Но, программа, собранная в среде
с уточнением (у нас) уже не будет работать в среде без уточнения.
Другая аналогия -- зависимости у пакетов. Если программа требует
виртуальную зависимость без версии, а пакет предоставляет эту
виртуальную зависимость с версией, то требование заведомо выполнимо.
Если же программа требует виртуальную зависимость с версией, а пакет
предоставляет виртуальную зависимость без версии, то требование заведомо
невыполнимо.
На уровне зависимостей оно реально так и происходит. То есть вместо
Requires/Provides: libglib-2.0.so.0(GLIB_2.8) можно было бы писать
просто libglib-2.0.so.0 = GLIB_2.8. Не знаю даже, зачем отдельный
синтаксис со скобками придумали.
