как минимум, потому что именно в xf4.4 появляются новые драйвера и
обновления к ним, лишь только потом они доходят (или нет) до xorg.
И потому, что в xf4.x есть совместимость между версиями, а в вечно
разломанном xorg ее нет. А это очень критично для дистрибутива из-за
всяких бинарных драйверов (fglrx/nvidia/mtx/volari/via). + Сроки выхода xf
более вменяемые, поэтому в большинстве случаев к выходу очередного релиза
и все коммерческие производители успевают выпустить обновления если это
нужно.
