Потому, что выдернуть флэшку даже с учётом разницы в длине
контактов можно куда быстрее, чем sync'нуть на неё данные при
попытке отмонтирования. Каковая как минимум у нас и не
производится, насколько вижу.

Ну ой. Пользуйтесь уж тогда лучше ext3 там, а ещё лучше -- sync.
