Повесил, не знаю, все ли корректно написал (первый раз таки).
Пытался гонять под strace - ноль (либо я совсем, либо процесс). При запуске из консоли раньше ругался, теперь мочит. В начале грешил на Gnome с его библиотеками (сам пользую IceWM) все снес и переустановил - ноль.
Кстати, раньше была проблема похожая, но не совсем - не хотел показывать файлы типа smth.JPG. хотя smth1.jpg отображал. Сломав себе голову догадался таки перегнать все в lc и тогда проблема исчезла. Больше не экспериментировал.
Теперь вот это вылезло. И с большими буквами не видит и с маленькими.
