Действительно, есть проблемы. Часть из них побеждается указанием опции
--lines (или -l). А вот некоторые проблемы я победить так и не смог.
Например изображение иногда остается на экране и висит. Иногда зависает
osd_cat. Например у меня fvwm вызывает osd_cat при переключении
страниц/десктопов с клавиатуры. Через несколько часов работы можно видеть,
что висящих процессов osd_cat накопилось порядочно. Правда они нормально
снимаются при помощи kill/killall. Один раз видимо из-за OSD завис xmms.
Все описанные проблемы появились именно после последнего обновления
libxosd/xosd-utils.

Мне кажется, проблемы здесь не в osd_cat, проблемы в libxosd
