Отделяет имя пакета от версии. Классическое заблуждение:
kernel-image-std-up-2.4.26-alt6.i586.rpm - это имя файла пакета. В принципе, его
можно обозвать как угодно, хоть 1.txt, но установится он нормально.
kernel-image-std-up - это имя пакета, содержащегося в этом файле. Оно не
зависит от имени файла. Соотв-венно, 2.4.26-alt6 - его версия. По
некоторым причинам для больш-ва пакетов в синаптике показывается только
имя, а для ядер - еще и версия, отделяемая от имени знаком #.

Скачайте файл заново. Русским же языком написано - файл меньше, чем
должен, т.к. скорее всего недокачался.
