В KDE tips есть упоминание о возможности запуска приложений
по комбинации клавиш, но рецепт не сработал.

В КДЕ3.2 есть граф.конфигурялка KHotkeys с поддержкой чего угодно, в т.ч.
мышиных жестов, DCOP и посылки нажатий клавиш в опред. окна.
В 3.1 этого ничего нет, но местный khotkeys (настраиваемый, вроде, через
редактор меню) позволяет развешивать клавиши на пункты меню (только жутко
криво).
