Согласен, нужно сходить на http://bugs.gnome.org и
http://bugs.kde.org/ и навешать FR-ов про отдельные кнопки.

Дело в том, что это работает только когда вход в систему был через
kdm. А в инсталляторе настраивается autologin, который работает
независимо от *dm и оконного менеджера.
Поэтому можно повесить баг с severity - enhancement

чтобы инсталлятор вместе с autologin настраивал еще и kdm.

Раньше были настройки для этого.
Сейчас не вижу, возможно они есть в
kcmshell display
в самой правой вкладке
