Журналируемые файловые системы, несмотря на распространенный миф, в
журналах ведут историю метаопераций над содержимым файловой системы, а не
историю изменения данных [1]. Так что -o sync является ортогональной
журналированию операцией, позволяющей в нужных случаях уменьшать риск
повреждения самих данных.
[1] - ext3 имеет режим журналирования данных, при котором
производительность существенно падает.
