I'm running a 1.5 ghz chip /1.5 gigs RAM with a 160 SCSI. I've got 25+ clients on a 10/100 switched network. OOo and firefox work without a hitch using icewm. A fellow LUGite and I put the whole thing together with donations for less than $800. Knowing what I know now, the whole thing could have been done for less. The k12osn list is swarming with people looking for specs on what to buy. Few talk about how to do networks on the cheap... sadly. Good luck Dennis Karsten M. The actual storage on this server is pretty small ~18G because all our stora= ge/home directories are on another file server via NFS. This server has been bom= b proof for about 3 years. we generally have about 40 concurrent sessions. I'd definitely recommend dual processors. Better to have 2 ok processors tha= n one fast one. Of course 2 fast ones would be ideal! ;-) -Derek --=20 Derek Dresser http://network.gouldacademy.org/ Gould Academy Bethel, ME 04217 (207)824-7700 "What is research but a blind date with knowledge?" --Will Harvey ------------------------------------------------- This mail sent through IMP: http://horde.org/imp/ --Swj79WlilW4BQYVz--
