Элементарно, Ватсон. В Мозилле (точнее, в еенных user*.css) размеры шрифтов
могут указываться не только в пикселях (суффикс px), но и в point'ах (pt),
которые суть _физическая_ величина, какая-то там часть дюйма.
Соответственно, когда оно рисует, оно пересчитывает эти размеры в пиксели
используя соответствующие показания xserver'а (или собственных настроек).
Если эти данные - больные, то и результат получается не слишком...
