Да, именно в версии 2.2.2 есть эта проблема, которая решена в 2.2.3.
Я писал уже об этом в sisyphus@.
Если срочно нужно, выгружайте с www.python.org и собирайте сами.
Проблема связана с переходом на unicode. Почитайте об изменениях
в 2.2.3, там очень много исправлений в tkinter.
