Может, все ж из-за того, что насильно указываем чипсет? Или надо не 0х514D, а
другой какой...

Похоже, что модуль fglrx всё-таки не знает эту карту. В рассылке
писали, что удалось запустить эту карту со свободным драйвером
(radeon, а не fglrx) - как раз путём указания ChipID 0x514D.
