[sisyphus] English+Russian interface - HOWTO??

Privetstvuju!

Proshu velikodushno izvinit' za latinicu, no pechatat' vslepuju ja ne
umeju, a najti naklejki s russkimi bukovkami v g. Boston, MA poka ne
udalos'. Esli kto znaet mesta - podskazhite, bud'te dobry. Ja tol'ko
nedelju kak prizemlilsa i eshe ne ochen' orientirujus'... Vopros mezhdu
tem srochnyj, budu ochen' priznatelen esli dochitaete i otvetite
nesmotrja na neudobstva.

Vopros etot zadaetsa reguljarno (mnoj uzhe raza tri za poslednie tri
goda), no otvet ja vechno terjaju, a poisk google'om na
altlinux.ru nichego ne nahodit, uvy.

Kak _pravil'no_ sdelat' chtoby interface sistemy byl polnostju (X i
console) na anglijskom (eshe luchshe - na amerikanskom :), no pri etom
sohranilas' vozmozhnost' chitat' i pisat' po-russki v KOI-8, takzhe v X
i v console? Vopros osobenno aktualen teper' kogda KDE voobshe perestal
obrashat' vnimanie na Control Center->Accessibility->Country/Language.
Moi igry s locale poka provodjat k tomu chto ja libo ne poluchaju
polnocennogo anglijskogo _vvyvoda_, libo ne mogu vvodit' russkij v
console. A lubimaja Sylpheeda pri LC_ALL=en_US ili C voobshe terjaet dar
russkoj rechi polnostju  :-((.

Set LC_MESSAGES=en_US, leave the rest on the russian setting.

In fact you must not set LC_ALL.

Spasibo za sovet, no eto ja sdelal srazu. K sozhaleniju, daleko ne vse
programmy obrashajut vnimanie ne LC_MESSAGES. No esli dobavit eshe
LANG=en_US i LANGUAGE=en_US, to vrode by vse poluchaetsa. Kstati, ja
nigde ne nashel opisanija peremennoj LANGUAGE, ni v man locale, ni po
ssylke vnizu.

S sozhaleniem obnaruzhil chto vysheopisanyj metod ne rabotaet na Master
2.2, hotja rabotaet na Sisyphuse. Vidimo potomu chto paket glibs-locales
dlja Mastera ne soderzhit nikakih localej krome RU. Po-moemu, eto
nepravil'no! ALT - eto zhe ne Russian-only distro.

There are no difference in glibs-locales from Sisyphus and Master 2.2;
You probably have to edit _install_langs macro in /etc/rpm/macros file.

This file is empty on my Sisyphus machine and it holds just one line on
Master machine:

%_install_langs ru_RU

Should I remove it? And reinstall glibc-locales?

That is, only ru_RU* locales are installed.

Yup, to install all available locales, just remove this line and reinstall
glibc-locales.

This did not help. Now I can see all locales installed, but both KDE and
console apps still ignore LC_MESSAGES, LANG, LANGUAGE settings and show
everything in Russian. That's a real mystery for me...
