Боюсь, строчки в /usr/bin/startgnome2

fi
вкупе с зависимостью gnome-session на metacity не очень-то оставляют
пространство для маневра. Я бы сказал, не "a default window manager",
а "the only window manager".

Ну, меня уверяют, что-де разумные дифолты лучше толпы настроек, и-де,
пора повзрослеть.

Ну, там можно не лениться, и ходить в ~/.sawfish/. Там почти все, как
настоящее. Даже, по-моему, каким-то хаком можно включить взад виртуальные
столы.
