Здравствуйте, sisyphus.
При попытке запуска таких программ как: mc, elinks - выползает
сообщение об ошибке.
Сколько еще программ будет рушиться, не знаю. Это то, что попало на
глаза, пока.
От чего ошибка и как эту беду побороть.

1. Какие устройства у вас есть в /dev?
2. Ставили ли вы ограничения при помощи ULIMIT?
3. Какая версия ядра?

1. full,null,ptmx, random, tty, tty12, urandom, zero + папка pts
2. файл конфигурации из sample.conf, лимит если и стоит то на 1000
процессов, специально ничего не трогал пока (разбираюсь)
3. 2.4.25alt3-vs-smp + подключил модули для promise ata raid

Ваша проблема в том, что при работе с консоли сервера
необходимо наличие соответствующих tty.
