я тебя видимо удивлю...
Xorg (и XFree86, за 20 лет ничего не поменялось) запускается на
свободной консоли начиная с 7-й, если ему явно не сказали vtXX. см.:
$ Xorg -help 2>&1 | grep "vt\|share"
vtXX use the specified VT number
-novtswitch don't immediately switch to new VT
-sharevts share VTs with another X server
