Виноват, в /dev модем есть! Я плохо посмотрел.

Еще уточню: я дал справку pciscan с другого компьютера. На том, на
котором я сейчас работаю, та же история: модем, видете ли, занят. Я
сделал здесь обновления из Сизифа. Вот какую справку теперь выдает
pciscan - практически такую же:
