ИМХО, если ADSL-модем с эзернетом внутрь, то в нём как правило уже встроен
PPPoE-клиент и DHCP-сервер. Тогда в большинстве домашних случаев разумней
воспользоваться им (т.е. использовать модем в т.н. режиме роутера) а не
поднимать сессию с компьютера подключенного к этому модему.
Если у вас модем уже настроен на вашего провайдера в роутер-режиме т.е. под
виндой вы уже подключаетесь к провайдеру при этом без инициализации
PPPoE-сессии с компьютера, и при этом винда получает IP по DHCP от модема.
То тогда под линуксом вам нужно только настроить свойства TCP-IP вашей
сетевой карты на получение адреса по DHCP от модема. Как это сделать точно
не помню. Давно не конфигурировал сеть, но скорее всего (если у вас одна
эзернетовская карта которая подсоединена к модему) нужно как-то в
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 указать DHCP вместо определения
айпишника...
