Проблема решалась методом научного тыка: 1. помня о том, что древняя флешка на usb1 таки работала, я решил выгрузить usb2, то есть rmmod ehci-hcd 2. И вот тут самое интересное. Если с загруженным ehci-hcd при втыкании флешки ответом было гробовое молчание оной, то теперь стало вываливаться сообщение об ошибке: device not accepting address - error -110 3. порывшись в гугле, я выяснил, что это скорее всего проблема IRQ sharing. Посмотрев на свой lspci -v я увидел, сколько там действительно разных дивайсов на том же IRQ, что и usb-контроллер (которых у меня аж 2). Один из контроллеров я сразу вырубил в биосе 4. почитал вот это http://www.linux-usb.org/notAcceptFeedback.html, потом достал из слотов винмодем и саундкарту, и вуаля! -- все резко заработало без дополнительных телодвижений =) 5. переставил в слотах вынутые устройства в другое место, и теперь все работают, все довольны =) ЗЫ Спасибо всем участникам треда за подсказки =) Если б их не было, я бы давно купил бы другую материнку (которая мне не нужна), а так имеем неземной фан в виде решения проблемы IRQ =) -- WBR, Andrei Popov Using ALM 2.4 + updates + backports
