Наконец дома до компа добрался :) В общем, творится что-то странное:
когда я написал это письмо, при повисании иксов в логе появлялось нечто
вроде "cannot allocate memory" (дословно не помню, но суть примерно та).
Ещё в логе обнаружил ругань про неправильный параметр -- в конфиге
обнаружил опечатку, поправил, добавил кое-каких параметров, отысканных в
инете для моего "родиона", перезапустил иксы, и -- о чудо!-- шестерёнки
закрутились и показали более 2000 фпс (без ускорителя что-то около 50
получается). После перезагрузки (ничего в конфиге не трогал) -- старая
история, иксы виснут, но в лог ничего не валится. Совсем ничего, в
момент запуска GL-ных приложений лог не изменяется. Да, драйвер
свободный, "radeon", фрэймбуфер консоли пробовал отключать --
безрезультатно (были сообщения, что он может конфликтовать с иксами).
