Я совсем недавно ставил Сизиф, срез прошлой недели на такую тачку.
Правда там ядро уже 2.6-14 и рекомендации могут не подойти.
1. Посмотрите на /var/log/Xorg.0.log. Может дело в мышке.
2. В BIOS setup установите значения параметров видео в 2 и 64M(я
не помню как звучат названия параметров)
3. #xorgconfig. Тип видеокарты лучше выбрать тот, который под
номером 200 с чем-то (Intel 810 или как-то так).
Я еще промучался с LCD-монитором, который не понимает частоты
горизонтальной развертки больше 70 Гц.
Он отрубался на этапе загрузки и включался при старте иксов.
Лечится - прописыванием в /etc/lilo.conf, чего-то типа vga=normal
Еще не мешало бы убедиться, что в /lib/modules есть модуль для
этой видеокарты.
