Приветствую.
Ктонибудь сталкивался с SAS RAID Vitesse VSC7250?
Если правельно понял

похоже что это недорогой железный RAID...
Но как им пользоваться, пока не понял: У меня сайчас железка, где
похоже он присутствует, на столе (Hyperion ES360 G2, см.
<http://www.etegro.com/rus/items/77/2.html>), но при подключении к SAS
портам дисков ни BIOS, ни система (2.6.18-xen026-alt1) их не видят.

Нет, но могу рекомендовать LSI SAS1068 как недорогой железный
RAID. SAS1064 мне активно не понравился (и поднялся как
раздельные диски -- правда, туда SATA воткнули).

Не факт - в Product Brief там упоминается и так "любимый" всеми режим
HostRAID... Возможно, признаком аппаратного RAID в данном случае
будет наличие слота для DIMM (хотя в случае устройств типа Promise
SX4, на самом деле не имеющих управляющего процессора, это тоже ни о
чём не говорит).

lspci -vvnn оттуда вытащить можно?
Если это I2O, возможно, не хватает модуля i2o_block - попробуйте
загрузить его вручную. Хотя в udev вроде бы есть соответствующее
правило:

У меня сложилось впечатление, что и 1064, и 1068 может встречаться в
виде HostRAID (скорее всего, встроенное окажется именно HostRAID).

еще один случай - это попавшийся тут нам
http://www.supermicro.com/products/system/1U/6015/SYS-6015V-M3.cfm
там указано, что
* LSI 1068E PCI-E SAS Controller
* 8 SAS Ports supporting up to 8 SAS HDD
* RAID 0, 1, 10 support
* (Optional: AOC-IButton68) RAID 5 support
сам контроллер встроенный.
дистрибутивы его не видят.
проблема есть еще в том, что я физически от него удален и могу судить только по ответам тех, кто там ;)
но текущая информация вроде в том, что его не видно даже если выключить "режим raid".

правда дальше все равно неудача там у него ;) Но смысл в том, что надо искать не опцию в биосе, а перемычку на плате.
а именно "As for now I have attached 1 SATA drive, installed OS, and I'm booting the kernel from SATA, and running "everything" from SAS disks with JPA2 jumper disabled."

1000:0059 - это то же, что 1000:0058, но в режиме FakeRAID.
В принципе можно попробовать сделать
echo "0x1000 0x0059" >/sys/bus/pci/drivers/mptsas/new_id
после загрузки модуля mptsas - в этом случае отдельные диски могут
появиться даже без перестановки перемычки. Но эту операцию придётся
производить каждый раз (в случае / на таком разделе - в initrd).
Теоретически существует драйвер (с бинарными кусками), поддерживающий
этот FakeRAID; однако вопрос с включением его в дистрибутив в
каком-либо виде пока не решён.

Там всё достаточно запутано: на самой плате 10 SATA`шных разъёмов. 2
из них -- действительно SATA (диски подключённые к ним работают и
nVidia`вский RAID, если его подключить, и/или BIOS их видят). Часть из
остальных (что удалось рассмотреть) -- помечена как SAS.
При этом, сам продавец страницу описания сервера
(<http://www.etegro.com/rus/items/77/2.html>) поменял... И документацию
на материнку мне пока не выцарапать...

Там ничего нет, кроме чипсета и двух устройств моста PCI-X. Либо этот
RAID-контроллер выключен в настройках BIOS, либо вообще не работает; можно
на всякий случай ещё посмотреть dmesg и попробовать загрузку с опциями
pci=assign-busses, pci=noacpi.

я думаю, что и не надо - я убедил, что это все криво и ненадежно.
пока рассматриваем два варианта - софтрейд на сата-дисках, подключенных к контроллеру intel на этой же плате (а с ним могут быть какие заморочки? ;)
или покупка отдельной платы.

Цитирую своё письмо в поддержку (часть):
Документацию на установленную в сервере системную плату нашёл --

Небольшой анализ показал следующее:
1. Vitesse VSC7250 на плате распаян (см.
<http://www.arima.com.tw/server/Download/Product/NM46X-1.jpg> -- он у
левого ряда отверстий, закрыт белым радиатором).
2. Но скорее всего -- отключен перемычкой CN23 (буду у железки -- проверю).
3. Часть дисковых разъёмов (4 шт.) комбинированная SATA/SAS. И скорее
всего -- их подключение к нужному контроллеру обеспечивается той же CN23...
Проблема с которой я столкнулся (нерабочесть части мест в корзине)
обусловлена следующим:
1. К корзине подключены 2 SATA разъёма, и 3 SAS.
2. Сам SAS контроллер -- выключен перемычкой.
PS: Будь корзина подключена к комбинированным гнёздам -- проблемы бы я
не заметил.
PPS: Осталось понять: реализует ли данный Vitesse VSC7250 аппаратный
RAID...

очень сомневаюсь. у аппартаных (отдельных плат) есть хотя бы свой процессор и память.
встроенные - почти наверняка неаппаратные, я обратных примеров не видел..

Ну:
1. Их железка, стоящая у нас в офисе, весьма приятна.
2. Ещё один их сервер (на другой платформе) -- тоже проблем не
вызвал.
3. У данного сервера то что заказано (2х дисковая конфигурация)
работает. Остальное же -- всплыли вопросы...

Попробуйте сделать следующее:
modprobe stex
echo "0x105a 0x7250 0xffffffff 0xffffffff 0 0 1" > /sys/bus/pci/drivers/stex/new_id
(вроде бы драйвер для этого устройства есть, но в версии, попавшей в
текущие сборки ядер, ошибка в таблице PCI ID).

Миш, это та система где мне Xen нужен...
PS: Именно эта проблема (с SAS) мне там не актуальна: в системе 2 диска,
и расширение (пока) не планируется. Сеть там меня больше беспокоит...
