From: <_kaa_@mail.ru> To: hardware@lists.altlinux.org Subject: [Hardware] проблемы с 3ware 9590SE-8ML и 4 single disk Date: Thu, 8 Mar 2007 16:52:44 +0300 Message-ID: <200703081652.44484._kaa_@mail.ru> (raw) Приветствую. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Request:- 1st March 2007 at 6:52 Hello, i have a problem booting OS, then i have active 4 single drive mode hard disks in controller(system pused/freezed before read mbr), when where are is only one - boot going ok, after this i plug-in sata cables in hard-disks and thay fully available in the OS after rescan. I didn't find any options in BIOS of controller, to force select boot harddisk. Can you help me? I do not want create raid0/1/5/10/50 etc.. i need all my drives as single disks. It is possible to boot from one of four single harddisk? Controller Summary ID Model Serial # Firmware Driver Status 2 9590SE-8ML L323034A6390311 FE9X 3.04.01.011 2.26.02.008 OK Response:- 1st March 2007 at 12:16 Hi Alesander, In the system Bios you can choose the boot order and you can setup from which hard drive you should boot. Sincerely, AMCC Customer Support, Tech 6. Request:- 1st March 2007 at 13:20 this is joke? o may be my English so bad... sorry... in BIOS of motherboard boot order selected like this: 1. 3Ware RAID Controller 2. CDROM and nothing else. after motherboard BIOS initialized successfully we see 3Ware full information table with hard disks attached to 3Ware controller (look up in my previous message in Combination Description ) _all my hard disks attached to 3Ware RAID Controller_ when attached disks 0(with 2 system - win xp and Linux, boot manager is LILO) 1 2 3 - boot process dasn't start, when i detach disks 1 2 3 and only disk 0 still attached to 3Ware RAID Controller - boot process begin normally as i need. My question is: can i boot OS normally with attached to 3Ware RAID Controller hard disks 0 1 2 3 which each in SINGLE MODE, not any RAID mode. I think problem is more complex, than just boot order of disks, if order is not right, then i must see NO SYSTEM DISK, but i can't see anything, it's like system freeze or waiting something without any prompt. Looks like the SINGLE DISK may be only one... but i need 4 for now and all 8 later... is this possible? Response:- 2nd March 2007 at 10:55 Hi Alexander, Yes it is possible to boot of the single hard disk . notmally the MBS is written to the fist available disk that would be the drive on port0 Sincerely, AMCC Customer Support, Tech 6. Request:- 2nd March 2007 at 13:22 :) but it dasn't boot... :) did your read all of i'm writing? single disk with two OS and MBR on port 0 boot only when it one and only one, when it together with other three disks ,which every in SINGLE DISK mode, - it do not want boot. May be you can repeat this configuration in lab? Unit Information (Controller ID 2) Unit Name Type Capacity 0(P0) SYSTEM SINGLE DISK 698.48 GB - two OS, MBR,boot loader. 1(P1) STORAGE1 SINGLE DISK 698.48 GB - storage 2(P2) STORAGE2 SINGLE DISK 698.48 GB - storage 3(P3) STORAGE3 SINGLE DISK 279.39 GB - storage 0(P0) + 1(P1) + 2(P2) + 3(P3) - dasn't boot 0(P0) - boot normal Request:- 6th March 2007 at 2:42 hello again, what about my situation? can your repeat it or your think this is my problem and do not 3Ware problem? Response:- 6th March 2007 at 14:26 Hello Alexander, Make sure that the boot disk is attached port 0. Then you should be able to boot. Thank you, Joseph Request:- 7th March 2007 at 2:55 i am sure, very much sure, sure as a steel in this information from controller(again and again and again, i'm seem, i'm not a parrot ): Unit Information (Controller ID 2) Unit Name Type Capacity 0(P0) SYSTEM SINGLE DISK 698.48 GB - two OS, MBR,boot loader. ^^^^ - this is P0(also marked with marked sata cable), first drive with system 1(P1) STORAGE1 SINGLE DISK 698.48 GB - storage 2(P2) STORAGE2 SINGLE DISK 698.48 GB - storage 3(P3) STORAGE3 SINGLE DISK 279.39 GB - storage this is true configuration without any missconfiguration, and information _from_ controller, _if_ i remove _only_ _1(P1),2(P2)3(P3)_ - then system boot normal, lilo wsrking and i can boot and linux and windows, after this i can hot-attach other 1,2,3 single disk to 3ware without reboot and i can work with all of my 4 single disk drive. again. 0(P0) + 1(P1) + 2(P2) + 3(P3) - dasn't boot 0(P0) - boot normal please, be more mindfully, try to understand, consult with engineer, repeat configuration in the laboratory with same controller 4 harddisks on single disk mode and lilo as boot manager. i understand, 9590 is a raid controller, but if function "single disk" asserted - must be realized in full range and where are must be no difference 1 single disk or 8 single disk in controller. Response:- 7th March 2007 at 16:15 You might want to change the boot priority boot order. Go to Boot-menu->boot-device-priority->hard-disks You probably will see 3ware card and bootable add-in card. Changing the order there might fix your boot problem. Thanks ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -- __________________________________________________ Alexander Kubatkin
