Через нормальный BIOS можно, только в данном случае всё древнее.
Впрочем, скорее всего, единственная неприятность от отсутствия
поддержки LBA48 в BIOS в том, что с разделов, лежащих в конце диска,
невозможно загрузиться.
При наличии других ОС следует учитывать их ограничения - в частности,
Windows XP научилась нормально поддерживать LBA48 без дополнительных
действий только начиная с SP1, и, возможно, эта поддержка всё равно не
будет работать при отсутствии поддержки в BIOS:
