Короче - во всем виноват kde!
И если kde говорит на попытку безопасного извлечения, что "only root can
unmount /dev/sda1 from /media/usbdisk", то не верь глазам своим - как
выяснилось, нормальные команды eject и umount работают от имени простого
пользователя на ура. И это действительно совсем не hardware.
"винда - отстой для дурака, а чтоб не высохла башка, нужна командная
строка" :)
