"Биос опознал диск и его геометрию" и "биос видит диск" немного разные вещи,
по-моему. Геометрию и наименование, насколько мне известно, биос запрашивает
у винта и получает. На этом этапе он может и не обломаться, при условии, что
величины параметров геометрии укладываются в его возможности (сам видел
систему, зависающую при подключении диска с более чем 1024 цилиндрами).
Но при адресации конкретного сектора может произойти облом, из-за того, что
такой большой номер для него просто не предусмотрен, откуда и ограничения. В
рассматриваемом случае, похоже, что больше 160 Гб биосу увидеть не судьба.
Кстати, не единичный случай, уже видел подобное, и граница именно такая былв.
