Уточняю: когда при установке возникает ошибка "error in exec of
stage2", работают ли клавиши Alt+F3, Alt+F2 и т.п.? Если консоли
переключаются - пришлите сообщения, которые там в этот момент есть.

Сразу после загрузки с установочного диска выдаётся окно со списком
режимов установки ("APIC Disabled", "Expert Mode", ...) - вот там и
нужно ввести этот параметр.

VIA VT8237 точно поддерживается (если не используется предлагаемый в
BIOS режим RAID) - и IDE, и SATA, и прочие его функции (например,
звук).
