1.)модем воткнут в ISA слот
[root@localhost root]# dmesg | grep ttyS
ttyS01 at 0x02f8 (irq = 3) is a 16550A
ttyS1: LSR safety check engaged!
[root@localhost root]#
2.)модем выткнут из ISA слота :-)
[root@localhost root]# dmesg | grep ttyS
[root@localhost root]#
3.)на модеме выставлено pnp
[root@localhost root]# dmesg | grep ttyS
ttyS01 at 0x02f8 (irq = 3) is a 16550A
ttyS1: LSR safety check engaged!
[root@localhost root]#
4.)в биосе выставлено PnP OS Installed = Yes на модеме PnP
[root@localhost root]# dmesg | grep ttyS
[root@localhost root]#
5.)в биосе выставлено PnP OS Installed = No на модеме IRQ 4
[root@localhost root]# dmesg | grep ttyS
ttyS01 at 0x02f8 (irq = 3) is a 16550A
ttyS1: LSR safety check engaged!
[root@localhost root]#

Тэкс, вот так бы я его и оставил.
Добавьте себя в группу uucp (/etc/group), перелогиньтесь,
# ln -s /dev/ttyS1 /dev/modem
# minicom -s
$ minicom
и попробуйте "пообщаться" с ним (AT). Получается?
