Здравствуйте!
У меня успешно работает USB HDD (IDE) box Chronos HD-338-U2.
Правда, в режиме USB 1.1, т.к. в ноутбуке оказался только
такой порт. Средняя скорость - порядка 1 Мбайт/сек. Eсли
появится возможность проверить на USB 2.0, отпишусь ещё раз.
Внимание! Система зависала при использовании модуля
usb-uhci вплоть до Alt-SysRq-B. Решилось заменой на uhci
в /etc/modules.conf:
alias usb-interface uhci
