Еще один вариант решения обсуждаемой здесь проблемы:
расширенный WMManager (выбирает не только WMs, но приложения из других
классов), интегрированный с menu (список альтернатив и иконки обычно
совпадают с соответствующим разделом меню). Благодаря такой интеграции с
menu отпадет необходимость в написании дополнительных конфигурационных
фалов (как что запускать, с какой иконкой) для этой программы.
Задача такого расширенного WMManager: выбрать одно из устаовленных в
системе приложений из какого-то класса для последующего использования
именно его этим пользователем по умолчанию в нужных ситуациях.
Использование menu дает решение и одной старой, многими замеченной
проблеме, возникающей при использовании WMManager: выбрав раз, потом
приходится либо ждать timeout при запуске, либо лишиться возможности
поменять установку только с помощью GUI-средств.
А ведь можно в раздел меню, соответсвующий какому-то классу приложений,
добавить пункт "Выбрать/настроить вариант по умолчанию" -- и можно смело
отключать timeout, не боясь потерять возможность изменить настройку
через GUI.
