В этом случае и меню будет соответствующим образом в этом дистрибутиве
переконфигурировано. А разборки со "слакварью" с каким-нибудь
--prefix=/opt/mysoft пускай сами слакваристы и устраивают.

Допустима, но для того, что типично ставится вне префикса: в /etc
что-нибудь, или в /var.
Вот писать вне DESTDIR - всегда моветон.
