Лучше конечно пользовательские systemd-шные сервисы, но сойдёт и xdg-
autostart, т.к. в systemd есть для него генератор в пользовательские юниты.
Там могут быть нюансы, что конкретный desktop-файл в некоторых случаях/DE
может не отрабатывать.
Разве что, xdg-autostart не может влиять на переменные окружения.
