Он написан более аккуратно. Свистелок-дуделок там, действительно,
поменьше, но они бывают нужны пренебрежимо редко.

Я цитату восстановил: там не случайно используется слово "ставить",
а не "использовать".

Это, кстати, аргумент в пользу Dovecot.

Да в общем-то раз в 20 лет можно и освежить инфраструктуру...

Их не менять надо, а строить рядом инфраструктуру на базе Dovecot +
(Exim | Postfix) и постепенно переносить пользователей.
