Сегодня поставил новое ядро и не смог с ним загрузиться. Поиск причины привёл
к initrd, созданным при помощи программы make-initrd (из installkernel). В
initrd просто не оказалось /bin/sh, нужного для запуска /init. Немного
подробнее: bug #23058.
