Можно было сперва сделать
$ ssh git.alt git-clone /people/ldv/packages/autoconf_2.5.git
а потом уже git-push'ить.

Обычно так не делают.  Если коммит
5e61364543f9679be6ad306e44175ccedc3499a7 не был опубликован, то применять
к нему git revert нет смысла.  Можно просто удалить этот коммит, или с
помощью git reset, или с помощью git commit --amend.
