А что это питон пустые файлы компилирует? По-моему загрузку пустых
файлов можно оптимизировать даже без компиляции в байт-код.
$ l /usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/mercurial/__init__.py*
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 134 Feb 3 01:40 /usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/mercurial/__init__.pyc
