Нет смысла сравнивать, versioning заведомо отличается.
upstream позволяет себе менять soname с каждой минорной версией:
LIB_VERSION := $(shell cat $(top_srcdir)/VERSION | \
awk -F '.' '{printf "%s.%s",$$1,$$2}')
Я не понимаю, почему они так себя ведут, но меня это не устраивает.
