В 2.6.31 обещают увеличение производительности. На сколько сложно
его собрать в Сизиф под видом, скажем, kernel-image-std-tst ?

Да я видел... Тут 3 момента:
1 - i586. Хотя для теста, по идее, хватит, но и x84_64 тоже есть, где
глянуть.
2 - не все модули - чтобы поставить на рабочий десктоп на подольше, надо
кое-какие дособрать.
3 - не каждый в курсе. :-)
