что происходит?

aplay -vv something.wav выдаёт в терминал график или просто висит?

Для начала - отделить проблемы ALSA от возможных проблем с новым ACPI:
попробовать то же самое с acpi=off.

Ещё надо посмотреть lspci -vvn -s 00:02.7
