Нашел сам свои ошибки - изучив отчет о конфигурации, увидел главное -
checking for X... no
Доставил XFree86-devel и еще другие devel-пакеты, по которым было "no" -
все работает...
Однако главную проблему - странное поведение xawtv в режиме fullscreen -
новая версия
не решила...
