Всё на самом деле гораздо проще. Проверено и работает который год.
Сборка от инфры вполне качественная.
1.
Распаковать тарбол (архив куда-нибудь)
2.
От root-а сделать
# rpm -ivh openoffice.org-ure-1.4.0-9357.i586.rpm
# rpm -ivh oobasis3.0-*
# rpm -ivh openpffice*
Если есть KDE ---
# rpm -ivh openoffice.org3.0-mandriva-menus*
3.
Можно удалить старый OO
Вообще конфликтов я не обнаружил
