Да нет же.. Опишу еще раз..
1. Запускаем xterm
2. В хterm запускаем mc
3. Перехожу на другой рабочий стол (или открываю окно ЛЮБОГО приложения,
пусть даже еще одно окно xterm, лишь бы новое окно было на переднем плане,
впереди mc)
4. Возвращаюсь на тот рабочий стол, где был mc (или переключаем окно с mc
на передний план в случае нескольких окон на одном рабочем столе).
5. Лицезреем искажение вида mc

Должно помочь, хотя если "наследственность" в виде АЛМ 2.4 плохая, то
проблема может остаться... До этого у меня был Compact 2.3 c дальнейшим
обновлениями из Сизифа - все было в абсолютном порядке (комп тот же).
P.S. Кстати, на ЧИСТОМ Compact 2.3 такого искажения mc в xterm НЕТ
