Насколько я понял, он высвечивает группы, в которых есть новые сообщения.
Если ты заинтересовался и зашел в группу - то он скачает список новых
сообщений и их подсветит. В Outlook Express был параметр "синхронизация",
в котором можно было для каждой группы задать, что именно скачивать. В
Thunderbird не искал.
В Thunderbird дургая засада - по умолчанию он не хранит текста писем, т.е.
в офлайне перечитать нельзя. Чтобы это исправить, нужно в свойствах группы
или в войствах аккаунта выставить флажок offline.
