Ну не знаю. У меня работает так:
evg@evg ~ $ crontab -l ------------------------------18:22
*/2 * * * * echo test >&2
И каждые две минуты текст "test", выданный на stderr скриптом, валится мне
в почту. На stdout в данном случае ничего не выводится, MAILTO не
используется. Вам видимо покопать надо.
