Читал. Вопрошающий не умеет использовать /etc/net/iftab, это же очевидно.
Я не помню точно, но по моему регистр у mac адреса имеет значение.
Я пишу (точнее копирую из вывода /sbin/ip link) всегда так:
$ cat /etc/net/iftab
alt mac 00:07:e9:0a:46:72
maxnet mac 00:0e:a6:5c:01:a0
