Subject: [Comm] неудачная смена ядра с 2.6.18 на 2.6.24-def

вот тут тред начал, что CD и DVD у меня не писались после последнего
апдейта бранча, порекомендовали ядро обновить до 2.6.24
эту операцию довольно безболезено провел для бука сразу после утановки
на него системы
а вот с десктопом проблема:
поставил я из сизифа ядро 2.6.24 def все нужные модули
сдуру решил сразу в синаптике и прибить старые модули 18 ядра для nvidia
получил ругань, что каталог недоступен
перегружаюсь в новое ядро
при попытке загрузки иксы естественно ругаются, что версии модуля и
жликса не совпадают и не грузятся
смотрю rpm -qa | grep nvidia - да дублируются модули
пробую удалить модули для старого ядра 2.6.18 через apt-get remove
пишет, что нет таких модулей
пробую через rpm -ev тот же результат
хочу удалить старое ядро - тоже самое
хотел загрузится в 2.6.18 - попробовал 2 пункта - алт линукс и 2.6.18
независимо от выбора - грузится 2.6.24
подскажите как выйти из ступора...
