Какая по счету годовщина, ical вроде не умеет считать.

ical это умеет,
и в X, и в консоли.

Пример события (не самый сложный):
"Каждую нечетную неделю во вторник от 1 сентября 2005 г.
до 31 декабря 2006 г. во столько-то будет то-то".
Напоминание: в X выскакивает окошко с сообщением
за (скажем) полчаса до события (можно и за день до)
и вылазит поверх всех окон каждые три (скажем) минуты.
Может и попищать.
Соответствующий фрагмент "плоского" файла событий:
Appt [
Start [1230]
Length [30]
Uid [main_10a0101_899_12a]
Owner [andrei]
Contents [То-то]
Remind [3]
Hilite [always]
Dates [Days 18/10/2005 14
Start 18/10/2005 End
]
]
Из GUI задать событие немного проще.
